Pre-Calculus Quiz
TIP!: An equation is a function if, for each value of x, there is exactly one value of y. Thus, for each of the equations in this problem, we’ll try to determine if there is any value of x for which there is more than one value of y. If we find one, then we’ll know that the equation is not a function.
ANOTHER TIP!: Often, if an exponent or other operation is applied to the dependent variable, y, it’s a clue that the equation may not be a function.

TIP!: The domain is the set of all values of the variable for which the equation is valid (remember that we can’t have zero in the denominator or a negative under a square root). The range is the set of all values that the function can take on and is limited by powers, roots, fraction denominators, absolute values, and trigonometric functions.
